THE GREAT HOW STEAN DUCK RACE
The Great How Stean Duck Race
After the success of the first ever Great How Stean Gorge Duck Race, we are pleased to hosting this great fundraising event again on the 1st August 2024.
The Great How Stean Duck Race, in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association, will be a fun family event. Both organisations provide essential emergency services for visitors and residents alike in such a remote part of Yorkshire.
The duck race begins at the top of the How Stean Gorge. Visitors will be able to follow the progress of the race from the bridge and in the gorge itself (normal admission applies). Visitors in the cafe will also see from the partial glass-floored cafe overhanging the gorge.

Here’s a few words about the beneficiaries:
Yorkshire Air Ambulance
Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charity relies on the generosity of individuals and organisations to help save lives across Yorkshire.
It only receives help through the secondment of paramedics and doctors from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust. To keep both of Yorkshire’s air ambulances in the air we need to raise £19,000 per day.
As a rapid response air emergency service the Charity serves a population of approximately 5 million people, across 4 million acres. The two air ambulances operate from airbases at The Nostell Priory Estate, Wakefield and RAF Topcliffe, Thirsk. Together with two Rapid Response Vehicles (RRVs) they cover the whole of the region.
