The home of Yorkshire brewing, Masham is the very essence of a Yorkshire Dales market town, from the rich and gentle landscape that surrounds it to the busy market square lined with independent businesses.
At the very foot of Wensleydale where the hills are rolling and the fields ripple with wheat in the summer, a church spire pokes above the trees and gives away the location of this traditional market town.
This pretty market town is arranged ornately around its Georgian market square. With a range of local shops, tearooms and great places to eat; Masham Yorkshire is a popular destination all year round.
A regular market takes place in the town square on Wednesdays and Saturdays, offering local goods and produce. Next to the marketplace, the town hall is the venue for an impressive program of live events throughout the year.
There is a range of enjoyable walks stretching out in all directions from the town, most notably including sections of the Ripon Rowel Walk, or the riverside paths along the Ure.
The spacious market square hosts a market twice a week and lends a feeling of open space and relaxation to this beautiful Yorkshire Dales town.
A town of character
Masham is a place that makes an impression whatever time of year you visit and the town’s character can be found at every turn such as unique events like the Masham Sheep Fair which takes place in September and the Steam Engine and Fair Organ Rally occurring earlier in the summer.
Of course, this town is famous for its two breweries. One is a long-established family brewery that has survived changes and challenges and still evokes a familiar fondness, the other is a new, once micro, brewery that has become one of the biggest players in the Yorkshire brewing industry.
Surrounding the town is a landscape full of curiosities and follies, with hidden and ornate structures that have been scattered throughout the nearby Hackfall Woods or the mystical stones of the Druid's Temple tucked into the woods by the nearby village of Ilton.
There are some truly special places to stay, from cosy little cottages tucked away down Georgian side streets to a stately house hotel, with expansive grounds stretching out before it.
So plan your next getaway and discover the spirit of Yorkshire in Masham
