Notes from a Small Island
In 1995, Bill Bryson, an American writer from Des Moines, Iowa, published Notes from a Small Island, based on a tour of Britain, followed twenty years later in 2015 by The Road to Little Dribbling. In a national poll the former was voted as the book that best represents Britain.
In his journeys Bryson brings to light numerous idiotic, endearing, ridiculous and sometimes eccentric incidents as seen through the eyes of an American, which anyone reading the books will easily recognise as quirks of our beautiful, magnificent and unique country. Indeed, his acute, funny and perceptive insights bring together all that is best and worst about Britain today.
The Harrogate Dramatic Society is proud to present the stage play in which Tim Whitnall has brought to life many of the encounters related by Bryson. It is great fun, so sit back, relax and enjoy our production and if you haven’t already read the books or want to read them again, now is your chance to do so.
