The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie | AA | Dir. Ronald Neame | 1969 | 116 mins | IDMb 7.6

HFS wants to pay tribute to the late great Dame Maggie Smith, one of the UK’s most prolific and beloved actors, who died on September 27th at the age of 89.

Appearing in her first film in 1956 and her last in 2023 gave us a wealth of comic, enchanting, entertaining and endearing performances to choose from.

The crème de la crème of which is her fascinating, complex, Oscar winning portrayal of a schoolteacher in 1930’s Edinburgh who exerts an unhealthy influence on her pupils in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.

Based on the novel by Muriel Spark, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie was released in 1969. Directed by Ronald Neame it also stars the legendary Celia Johnson and Gordon Jackson. Filmed on location in Edinburgh and on set at Pinewood studios -British Film making at its best!
