Ripon Museums are thrilled to unveil an exciting new summer campaign, inviting families to send their children back to the workhouse this school holiday!

The summer trail will run across the three heritage museums: Workhouse & Gardens, Courthouse and Prison & Police Museums. It has been made possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England.

On top of the popular dressing up, costumed guides, baking and crafting, children of all ages can journey through 6 herb themed challenges, discovering more about life in Victorian Yorkshire.
Starting on the 20th July and running throughout the school holidays (until 2nd September), the trail is included with the purchase price of a standard museum ticket. The museums will be open seven days a week, with tickets valid for 12 months for unlimited return visits - offering real value for families all summer long.

The trail is both indoor and outdoor, so rain or shine children can have fun and explore local history.

The herb theme connects visitors with nature and history. The herb theme stems from the Workhouses own Victorian kitchen garden which has been lovingly restored by a dedicated team of volunteers. As one of the country's finest working Victorian gardens, the secret gem is nestled away to the rear of the Workhouse and provides a magical environment for families to run around, relax and learn about herbs and gardening. The trail connects many aspects of the museum with learning about the medicinal benefits of herbs, gardening tips and sustainable practices used to maintain Victorian heritage species.
