Festive masterclass with international floral designer at Newby Hall
Creating inspirational and sustainable floral designs for the festive period and beyond is the theme of an upcoming masterclass being staged by Harrogate Flower Shows at Newby Hall on Friday 22 November.
Acclaimed international floral designer Jonathan Moseley will offer expert insights and insider top tips gleaned over his 30-year career to shake up your yuletide floral decorating habits and preconceptions.
Along with demonstrating creative techniques to extend the longevity of festive displays using plants, bulbs and winter foliage, Jonathan will show how to use foraged berries, seedheads, cones and fruits to create an attractive Christmas wreath, garland or floral display.
The event supports the work of the North of England Horticultural Society, the charity that stages the Harrogate Spring and Autumn Flower Shows. A previous event in July raised more than £3,000 to support the charity’s work in promoting horticulture throughout the north of England.
Jonathan Moseley also works regularly with the Royal Horticultural Society, as well sharing his expert floral insights and on popular television programmes such as Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh and The Big Allotment Challenge.
Jonathan said: “I am looking forward to sharing my top tips for festive decorating and giving lots of practical advice about how to maximise the life of your flower arrangements into the darker winter months by removing festive elements and replacing them with winter foliage.
“All my designs will be constructed with sustainability in mind, with a focus on introducing some longer lasting blooms that are beautiful, yet tolerant of often over-heated indoor Christmas temperatures.
“I hope to inspire everyone to be creative using what is readily available from nature to create an amazing Christmas decoration, as well as challenging people’s perceptions about Christmas colour schemes by introducing some fabulous long-lasting flowers in varying shades of apricots, peach and creams.”
Being held between 12.30pm and 4pm in the Orangery at Newby Hall, guests will be greeted with a glass of warming mulled wine and a welcome from TV presenter Christine Talbot before settling down to an afternoon of inspiring festive decorating demonstrations.
A seasonal afternoon tea will be followed by a tutorial on planting bulbs for indoor colour. Guests will even receive a take-home kit to create their own mini display.
Priced at £75.00, tickets are available from: https://tickets.flowershow.org.uk/sales/events/winterblooms
