Coldstones Cut
Start your day on top of the world and visit Coldstones Cut, Yorkshire's largest and highest public artwork. This sculpture looks out over the Nidderdale AONB, with views that stretch for many miles. From its apron, you can gaze into the Coldstones Quarry, where limestone is extracted for use in construction across the region. Learn about the fossils that have been found in the rock and walk the enormous compass, which gives the distances to many locations across the world.
Pateley Bridge
From here you can make your way into Pateley Bridge where you can browse the award-winning high street, discover the stories of Nidderdale’s heritage and explore the riverside – perfect for hot days when dogs can enjoy a dunk in the cooling waters. The expansive area of Pateley’s recreation ground offers a play area for children, and a large area where dogs can play fetch and burn off some energy.
How Stean Gorge Café
Head up the valley to How Stean Gorge where you can explore the limestone chasm lined with trees. Watch from above as the adventure activity courses are traversed beneath you, perhaps while enjoying a cup of tea and perusing the menu.
The café at How Stean offers remarkable views as it is cantilevered out over the gorge, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls and sections of glass floor, but for dogs (and people who find that unnerving) seating is also available on solid flooring.
Brimham Rocks
Discover the astonishing rock formations formed by the elements over 340 million years, set amongst a protected landscape of special scientific interest. Managed by the National Trust, Brimham Rocks is dog friendly, and the site is at the heart of a network of footpaths and surrounded by access land, making it perfect for stretching the legs and exploring. Please note that some dogs must be on a lead and some areas are not available to dogs.
Whittaker's Distillery Tour
Finish your day with a visit to one of Nidderdale’s newest visitor attractions at Whittaker’s Gin Distillery. Deep among the fields of Nidderdale, some of the finest Gin available in the UK is lovingly infused with a carefully selected aromatics on the site. See how it is done and learn about the Whisky that is now also made on site in the new distillery. Tours and experiences are available, and of course you can buy a little something to remind you of your visit.
