About Staveley Nature Reserve

Staveley Nature Reserve, spanning 84 hectares, features a shallow lagoon surrounded by reedswamp, fen, grassland, scrub, and pasture. Home to over 230 plant species, including bee orchids and common spotted-orchids, it also supports 205 bird species, 45 of which breed here. The reserve is vital for dragonflies, with 19 species recorded. Efforts are made to preserve open habitats by removing invasive scrub and maintaining grasslands. It was purchased through donations and the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund.
