Egg-cellent Easter ideas to enjoy in the Harrogate district
The daffodils are out, the skies are blue, and we are getting egg-cited about the Easter holidays. There are plenty of events and activities taking place across the Harrogate district over the Easter weekend and school holidays to keep all the family entertained. Here are a few of our favourites from our Easter egg-stravaganza to get you in the mood!

Families can find some exciting Easter fun on the Fairytale Woodland Family Trail at Newby Hall and Gardens near Ripon from Saturday 1 – Sunday 16 April. Pick up your map for the self-led trail and head in to the woodland ready to solve the clues. Along the way, sit at the giant’s table, avoid the troll under the bridge and make sure to find all the ingredients to go in the cauldron. Easter characters bring the trail to life over the Easter weekend between Friday 7 and Monday 10 April.
Fairytale Woodland Family Trail
Little adventurers will love a trip to Beningbrough Hall, Gallery and Gardens from Saturday 1 - Sunday 16 April. Here they can discover the ten point trail around the gardens armed with a trail sheet, pencil, bunny ears and a chocolate egg. Activities along the way include hopscotch and skipping. Head to the wilderness play area afterwards, if children still have energy to burn, finish the day with a treat from the restaurant or buy a memento from the shop.
Easter at Beningbrough
Head to RHS Garden Harlow Carr for lots of Easter family fun. Go on a larger-than-life Easter egg hunt running from Saturday 1 – Monday 17 April, find the giant eggs hidden around the garden and win a chocolate prize. Children can also join the Forest School in the woodland on 3 and 10 April or join adventure walks with the Garden Detectives on 4 and 11 April. With lots of other activities and workshops running throughout the Easter holidays, children will have a fantastic time.
The Giant Easter Egg Hunt at RHS Garden Harlow Carr
Join a traditional Easter egg hunt at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden from Saturday 1 – Sunday 16 April. Discover the family-friendly trail with fun nature-inspired activities and earn your chocolate reward at the end. Pick up an adventure trail map to complete the fun activities or just zoom across the grounds as fast as little legs can go and enjoy the sheer joy of the great outdoors!
Easter trail at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal
There are many Easter events to choose from at Swinton Estate. The Easter trail runs throughout the school holidays at Swinton Bivouac or children can experience hands-on learning about the great outdoors at the Woodland School on 5 and 12 April. An Easter egg making half-day course for children is on offer at the Swinton Cookery School on Wednesday 5 April or you may prefer to indulge in a delicious afternoon tea with all the family. Whatever you decide to do, you’re never far away from a stunning Easter treat at Swinton.
FROGS Easter Trail at Swinton Bivouac
If you fancy a magical twist on a classic, why not try the Studfold Easter Egg and Fairy Hunt from Saturday 1 – Sunday 16 April. Pick up a clue sheet and find the brightly coloured eggs, discover large willow nests, golden rabbits and see the tiny springtime fairies.
Studfold’s Great Easter Egg & Fairy Hunt
The Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park invites you to enjoy Easter family fun with mud, bugs and a dragon quest. Running between Tuesday 4 and Sunday 16 April, there are some super-fun activities happening around the gardens. Children can sculpt a muddy tree monster, help to build a bug mansion and see if they can crack the tree fairy code. On Monday 10 April, join interactive storyteller, Dragonella and go on an adventure around the gardens on a quest to find the dragon eggs and keep them safe. Places are limited for the dragon quest – book your place online today.
Easter Family Fun – Mud, Bugs and a Dragon Quest
Hop along to the Easter Adventure at Mother Shipton’s in Knaresborough from Saturday 1 – Sunday 16 April. Follow the Bunny Door Trail and look out for the giant eggs and some cracking photo opportunities of wonderful Easter scenes throughout the beautiful woodland. You may even meet the Easter Bunny. Pack a picnic, bring your four-legged friend and spend the day exploring one of England’s oldest tourist attractions. Online booking is essential.
Hoppy Easter at Mother Shipton'sThe Goldsborough Hall Easter Trail takes places from Monday 10 – Friday 14 April Find the painted eggs hidden in the woods and solve the clues to complete the anagram and win prizes. Great fun for all the family.

For those looking for other events not Easter-related, Ripon Cathedral is holding its’ Spring Food, Home and Garden Fair on Saturday 15 April from 10am-4pm. Enjoy a fun day with over eighty traders, children’s attractions, petting farm, LEGO workshops and live music. A refreshment café will keep everyone’s energy levels up too.
