A Place to Feel Good: Beningbrough Hall, Gallery and Gardens
With eight acres of beautiful gardens to explore and 300 years of history to unravel, Beningbrough Hall, Gallery and Gardens is a place that will make you feel good. You can stretch your legs and walk around the park, find peace and tranquillity amongst the breath-taking formal gardens, or step inside and discover the historic rooms of Beningbrough and learn about a hall designed to impress visitors for hundreds of years.

The beautifully arranged formal gardens, with spring bulbs, herbaceous borders and a walled garden full of fruit trees provide vibrant colour whenever you visit. With so much space to escape to, there are quiet spots for you to take time for yourself and refresh, or to stop and just take it all in. Alternatively, there are lots of spots for picnics with the whole family to enjoy.

The Gardens are going through exciting changes, with award-winning RHS landscape and garden designer Andy Sturgeon working at Beningbrough to revitalise, refresh and in some places, re-invent the eight-acre garden. With little detail known about the past gardens on the site, Andy and his team have been given the freedom to be creative to produce a truly stunning landscape that visitors can escape to, relax and enjoy.

Why not soak up some culture and surround yourself with the architecture and history of the Hall. Take a stroll around the ground floor and discover Beningbrough through the decades. The ground floor has just re-opened after being closed for 18 months for a £2.3 million project to preserve the hall for future generations. Find a quiet spot and hear the stories of the people who shaped Beningbrough, while enjoying the quality of the expert craftsmanship.
Whatever your interests, staff and volunteers are full of tales to help you uncover the history, find out more about the people and collections of Beningbrough. While you’re contemplating what to explore next, treat yourself in the on-site café or enjoy in some retail therapy in either the bookshop, gift shop or plant shop.
If you are visiting after 16th September 2023 make sure you head to the first floor and experience the new Gallery, Inspired by Italy. This brings together the work of Kate Somervell, a contemporary photographer based in Yorkshire, and Giovanni Battista Piranesi, an eighteenth-century Italian artist. Take time to yourself in the gallery to take in the romance of Italy and its influence on Beningbrough, one of Yorkshire’s great houses. The Gallery is open until 17th March 2024 so make sure you add Beningbrough Hall, Gallery and Gardens to your list of places to visit, explore and feel good in this year.
