A week long garden staycation to Harrogate
The Harrogate District is the must visit destination if you ‘Love Gardens’ and enjoy gardening. We are blessed with an awe-inspiring collection of unique gardens so if you’re planning your next getaway then what could be better than a week exploring the glorious gardens we have to offer. We’ve put together this 7 day itinerary to help you get the most out of your stay with us.
Day 1
Rudding Park Hotel, Harrogate: Start your first day with a stroll amongst the fragrant herbs at Rudding Park Kitchen Garden which boasts 52 raised beds and over 500 types of plants including herbs, salads, edible flowers and fruits.
Day 2
RHS Garden Harlow Carr, Harrogate: Immerse yourself in this truly wonderful RHS Garden for the day. One Yorkshire’s most relaxing and innovative gardens, Harlow Carr is a showcase of horticultural excellence so take time to savour and enjoy.
Day 3
Ripon Spa Gardens: A beautiful place to start your day. Wander through this floral park in the heart of Ripon complete with a Victorian bandstand, wood carvings and wildlife habitats.
Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park, Grewelthorpe: A true hidden gem. This award winning park is home to over 80 contemporary sculptures set within 45 acres of breath-taking garden, inspired by the Himalayas. The Himalayan Garden is now open throughout the spring and summer.
Day 4
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal: Spend a whole day exploring this iconic World Heritage Site. Set in a secluded valley, this National Trust property will captivate you with its vast Cistercian abbey ruins and Georgian water garden.
Day 5
Beningbrough Hall, Gallery and Gardens: A short journey from Harrogate, this delightful National Trust property with its Italian inspired hall is surrounded by eight acres of formal gardens including a walled kitchen garden with over 90 varieties of fruit trees and shrubs.
Bebra Gardens, Knaresborough: Take an afternoon stroll around these beautiful hidden gardens near Knaresborough Castle. Dip your toes in the paddling pool if you need to cool down on a hot afternoon.
Day 6
Ripon Walled Garden: Spend a morning at the Ripon Walled Garden, part of the Ripon Community Link Charity working with adults and young people with learning disabilities. Explore the plant nursery, orchard, woodland and enjoy some lovely refreshments.
Markenfield Hall, Ripon: An afternoon visit here is a must, this mediaeval, moated and much-loved family home, is a historic house unlike any other. Enjoy a tour of the hall and the enchanting gardens.
Day 7
Newby Hall and Gardens, Ripon: Spend your last day enjoying the award winning gardens at Newby Hall. Home to the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show this year, it is one of the most important and beautiful 20th century gardens in the country and certainly the North’s finest.
